When I first downloaded the app out of quarantine boredom in March, I started off on straight TikTok like everyone else. After I followed queer women and liked their videos, my FYP shifted to the lesbian side of TikTok, and I basically never saw a straight person on my feed again. Many of the video formats, jokes, and aesthetics in these subgenres can be confusing for new TikTok users. After a few too many hours of scrolling, I have some answers. These videos feature mostly masc-of-center women or non-binary people who lip-sync suggestive lyrics while smizing like Justin Bieber and sticking out their tongues. Button downs, vans, beanies, and eyebrow slits are all part of the standard thirst trap uniform.
Reminds me of what happened to white girls in the wake of the documentary The Aggressives. The creator in the video above, Emily Gracin, has mastered mocking the hey mamas on the social media platform and beyond.
Can you help? Every dollar helps!
Still, it takes funding to keep this indie queer publication running every day. She is terrified of mermaids and teenagers equally. This article had me rolling! I got you! Will you help us out? And a lot of the other terminology I frequently encounter here. Urban Dictionary will help you get some base knowledge but tread lightly there — also I often use AAVE and breaking down those terms is not work that I often want to do.
Loved this, the humor and education. Shelli Nicole is a Detroit-raised, Chicago-based writer. Shelli has written articles for us. Before you go!

Samesies Loading YUP Loading Oh so basically lesbian fuckbois but Gen Z. Oh my god thank you for this. Ok so, wtf is a Hey Mamas lesbian? Is there any chance of an article explaining slang for beginners? You've decided to leave a comment.
Or hotep. Loved this, would very much like a series Loading As a Gen Z queer who is not on TikTok, thank you for this explainer!
Sorry, your blog cannot share posts by. Help us out! I have been in navel to find an adequate history on the origin.
I agree with Carmen. She was doing this while still stuck on her ex.
Afterward, if any of your little cousins or siblings are out here doing this on the TikTok and are non-black, let them know how not okay that is. I definitely played rugby with the version of Hey Mamas Loading Like I know men who are dude bros but none of them would call themselves that.
So, let these hey mamas live and just keep laughing at their TikToks at 3 am.
Not right now, thanks. We can meet our goal if everyone pitches in! Will you them?
The rugby hey mamas lesbians! Clad in jerseys and licking their lips like they just discovered LL Cool J, lip syncing along to lyrics they have no business singing to while getting way too close to the camera. Last year, a bunch of queer babes who just so happen to fall into the Gen Z category started using TikTok as thirst trap city. All the appropriation but no TikTok. Related: dyke dictionary tiktok.

I go in between hating it and not giving a fuck because guess what — it is not meant for me. And the majority of our funding comes from readers like you. Contribute to the conversation Cancel reply Yay! Want us to remind you later?
But honestly, some of the shit we all did was.
All of the descriptions are always so vague to me. Just real life, in person, foolery. That's fantastic. Or wastemen.

Boomerangs were no longer sufficient to grab the attention of whoever it was they were trying to kiss, or in some cases fuck — but with some VERY questionable finger movements they probably learned via the app. That would be super helpful for me and much appreciated. I am grown, and the demographic to be or want a hey mamas lesbian is not one I fit in, they are like 10 years younger than me and mostly white so, in the end, I do not care. And also something discussed as misappropriation of AAVE and problematic. We know that any non-black lesbians should not be in any way shape or form out here calling themselves studs.
